17-11-2016 Maximus is one of 12 who we have taken in from Cyprus. He is a 2 year old male hound cross estimated to be born in January 2014 and was taken into rescue in May 2015 and has been waiting for a home since then. Maximus was found with a broken leg, but this has been operated on and he is now recovering. He is a very friendly boy and loves being around people! We are looking for a home with another dog to help him settle into his new life and to help him with house training should he need it. Maximus has been in kennels for over a year now and is ready to find his forever home, do you think that can be you?
At volunteer at the rescue in Cyprus sent us this about Maximus
Maximus was one of the first dogs I got to know as a volunteer at Sirius Dog Sanctuary. I will never forget the way he looked at me the very same day I visited the sanctuary, as if he was begging me to take him out, which of course made me cry. Indeed, words cannot describe what a lovely dog he is. He appreciates even the slightest thing you do for him and looks at you with those beautiful, big, expressive eyes to show his gratitude and devotion. He is loving, affectionate and loves being with people, so living in a kennel gives him a very hard time. Maximus loves running in open spaces and it’s when you realise how much he values freedom, so I always try to spend time with him and take him for walks when I visit the shelter. My dear Maximus, words cannot express how happy I am that you are about to start a brand new life. I really can’t wait to see you leaving the shelter, but what would make me the happiest person on earth is finally seeing you having the life you deserve. I am more than sure you will be adopted very soon by a lucky family that will be able to offer you all the love and warmth you so much need. I will miss you buddy...You will have a special place in my heart forever; you will always be loved and never forgotten. Have a great life, my precious!"
Maximus is a super handsome boy who needs work - being in kennels has done him no favours. He needs a very experienced home who are used to large, strong dogs. Maximus is hand shy and is difficult to do a lot of things to because he hasn't experienced it. For example - putting a jumper on took 10 minutes because he wasn't sure if I was playing or not. I would recommend a home where any children are teenagers as he does jump up. I have been trying to socialise Maximus with our male staff members to help build his confidence as he definitely feels uneasy when being in male company. He is a gorgeous boy and is developing slowly. On a plus side he is very clever and responsive after only 2 days of knowing me. He won't take long to come along at all and he is devilishly good looking!
Maximus has an an X-ray on his leg as it has been playing him up and is going to have an operation to have the pins fixed, this is being done on the 10th of this month. He will need to be crate rested for 6 weeks then he should have a pain free life, this is what were hoping anyway. He is looking for a home before this happens hopefully as recovering in kennel’s won’t be nice for him. Max is a very loving boy and ive got a good bond with him, he gets extremely excited when he see’s someone with a food bowl as he thinks all food that is going around is all for him. He loves to give cuddles and does love a scratch on the back. He gets on with most dogs if introduced right, but he does love to play with other dogs once he knows them. he is still strong on the lead, but with gentle correction he will come back to your side. Maximus has been with us for quite a wjile now and everyone that meets him really do fall in love with him. Come and see him for yourself and see what a good boy he is.
Maximus has had his operation on his leg and he was lucky enough to be placed in a foster home to recover. The family that fostered him were lovely and only had him while he recovered as they are now away, so he is back with us. Maximus loves to play with his kennel staff that look after him and play with the other dogs although he can get a little rough sometimes, and because of this we are looking for a home with larger dogs or as an only dog. Max loves his food so this would be good for ongoing training in his future home. When corrected maximus will walk right by your side, but if your soft with him he will try and push the boundaries. He is a beautiful dog that loves anyone that has time for him. He is the last dog left out of all the Cypriot dogs that came in, so if you are looking for a loving and loyal dog please consider Maximus.
Maximus has been in foster with me now for just over two weeks. I really thought he was going to be a bit of a handful.... I was so wrong! Since day one Maximus has been clean, quiet, gets on well with his foster sisters and even had a little sniff of a ferret for the first time.
We have been all over Gower exploring and he has enjoyed the beaches and the woodlands, meeting all kinds of dogs. Although he can be a little intimidated sometimes he hasn't given a negative reaction once.If Maximus is bit nervy about something he will tell you. Only one older gentleman going for a run has solicited a bark from him but I think this is very good considering how far he has come!
Maximus has met many different types of people now, he is a little wary of tall men but as long as his socialisation is kept up this will continue to improve. He likes to play with toys, other dogs and his recall is almost 100%, I really can't praise this gorgeous boy enough.
The only sad thing we have discovered is due to a trauma in kennels (playing hard with another dog) he developed uveitis in his left eye and we believe he has little or no vision in it now. Maximus is having drops in his eye four times a day and although it took a bit of persuading in the beginning he is now letting me do it with ease.
Maximus's leg is also healing very nicely now. Max doesn't let any of this stop him, he is fun loving, affectionate and loyal. He can be an only dog in the right circumstances but I believe his perfect forever home has another dog for him to play with. He has met chldren of 8+ and is fine but would be best homed with dog savvy teenage children. Max does mostly sleep downstairs but does like to sneak up for a morning play fight/cuddle/kiss session; caged furries would be fine but I can cat test him - I believe he would be scared of a cat initially but if one ran he would want to chase.
If you are interested in this most gorgeous boy please get in touch, he is up the centre five days a week when I'm working so if you want to meet him please come up and ask. Otherwise please share his story, after all he has been through he deserves stability and a loving forever home.
ADOPTION DETAILS - MAXIMUS IS BY DONATION
Although MAXIMUS is by donation rather than the full adoption fee, please make your donation a reasonable one in line with the costs that have been incurred. All our dogs are micro-chipped, have had at least their first inoculation and are spayed/neutered unless there is a medical reason for not doing so. If your application is successful you will be home checked and you, all members of your family and any dog(s) who will be living with the dog MUST come to meet the dog you want to adopt. You must have a safe means of transporting the dog home in a crate or if this is not possible please discuss with Many Tears or the Fosterer when your application is being processed.
