Breed: Saluki Cross Lurcher

22-04-13 Poppy is a 3 year old gentle sweet lurcher. She is a saluki cross and very very pretty. She originally came to us with two of her puppies as her owner was to be evicted if she was not removed from the house. She is great with children and other dogs, but sadly will chase cats, and shows a keen interest in chasing sheep, so has been returned. We are looking for a home away from sheep country and without a cat or any other small furry aninals. She is house trained and an extremely quiet lady who loves to be loved and talked to, and walks well on a lead. She is a really lovely girl who really adores her soft bed. She is the height of a saluki but possibly has some Bedlington in her too.
This beautiful gentle girl is a joy to have around. She has to be one of the most peaceful dogs I have fostered to date. Poppy is more than happy lounging around all day snoozing, though she walks beautifully on the lead. She loves to play with my collie and makes us laugh when she does so. Being a typical sighthound, she will chase cats if given the chance, however we did have one run across in front of us on a walk and after two corrections from me she ignored and carried on walking. Poppy doesnt mind travelling in the car and will quite happily jump in the boot and make herself comfy for the journey. She has met dogs of all sizes whilst on the lead and has met them politely. She even had a little JR jumping up and around her face and she didnt react at all. Poppy will need a home without small furries or cats and where she will get all the exercise she needs. If you like the Saluki breed then you will absolutely love Poppy.
Today I have walked Poppy on a lead through a field of sheep with no problems at all. It is worth noting that she may very well chase a moving sheep once she is off lead, but today she showed no interest at all. However, cats are a totally different matter, although she will take note of correction and walk away.
The adoption fee for a dog is £170 for a dog at the centre and £180 for one in foster. If your application is successful you will be home checked and you, all members of your family and any dog(s) who will be living with the dog MUST come to meet the dog you want to adopt. All our dogs are micro-chipped, have had at least their first inoculation and are spayed/neutered unless there is a medical reason for not doing so.
