When I was asked to walk Mable as a volunteer earlier this week, I knew nothing about her - her temperament, her background. So Mable and I trundled off for a gentle walk and it took all of about 2 minutes for me to become utterly besotted with this gorgeous girl. If you’re a bulldog lover, this girl is for you. Even if you’re not a bulldog lover, but you would enjoy the company of the most loyal best friend, Mable is the girl for you.
Mable walks beautifully alongside you, regularly checking and looking up to you, as if to ask for gentle reassurance that she’s a good girl and doing well. She showed no interest in any dogs, horses, cars whilst we were out although we kept our distance.
After a while, we stopped away from the noise and activity of the rescue centre and we just sat there, to enjoy the gentle breeze and the warmth of the sun on our skin. Mable gently placed her solid front paws on my lap and rested her head on my shoulder. Within minutes, this girl was prepared to give me all of her love and affection. We stayed there for quite some time, Mable accepting kisses on her head and back rubs and hugs from a complete stranger. This is how pure and trusting Mable’s soul is.
This girl is so unassuming. She doesn’t demand attention. She isn’t exuberant or manic. In fact, in her kennel, Mable just sits there, looking almost defeated, because she has so much to give, and so far, has had nobody to give it to. The staff do an amazing job of loving Mable, but Mable’s heart is huge and she needs so much more.
Before I left to go home, I went back to see Mable in her kennel. There was no frantic tail wagging or excitable jumping. She looked up at me with those big blue soulful eyes as if she didn’t believe her luck. We sat together for a little while on her cosy duvet and I promised her that everyone at the centre was working their hardest to find her special person. And I hope that this happens very soon, because a gentle, generous, honest soul like Mable should enjoy undivided attention, belly rubs on a cosy sofa, cuddles on tap and a familiar voice telling her all day, every day, how loved and special she is.
Mable

This special dog is one of our Diamonds in the Ruff!
These wonderful souls may be older, have medical needs, or come with a few unique quirks—but they have endless love to give. Full of personality and deserving of a second chance, they come with a reduced adoption fee to help them find the perfect home. Could you be the one to give them the love they’ve been waiting for?

Mable has come to us from a breeder and is one of the loveliest, most people-pleasing cuddlebugs we’ve had the pleasure of meeting. With her big heart and even bigger snuggles, she’s simply bursting with love and is now looking for a home where she can soak up all the attention – and honestly, who could blame her?
Mable would thrive as the only animal in the home, where she doesn’t have to share her beloved humans or her food. She is extremely food reactive around other dogs, so an animal-free home is essential. That said, once she’s settled and with careful management (and no food around), she may be able to enjoy some gentle socialising on walks.
She walks well on a lead and could live with older, dog-savvy teenagers who understand her needs and are more than happy to shower her with affection – because cuddles are her absolute favourite thing in the world!
Mable hasn’t lived in a home before, so she’ll need a patient and understanding family to help her learn about house training, new sounds, and the routines of home life. But what she lacks in experience, she makes up for with love and loyalty. Mable has come to us with very sore ears and obtained puncture wounds during an incident with another dog, and is now receiving treatment for her injuries, as well as receiving treatment for a snotty nose.
All Mable truly wants is a family of her own – people who adore her, spend time with her, and let her snuggle up by their side. In return, she’ll give back tenfold in kisses, cuddles, and pure devotion.
