Meet Dragon:

Dragon is a spirited and intelligent young terrier who is looking for an experienced, dedicated adopter to help him continue his training and enjoy an adventurous life together.

Originally rescued from the pound after being found tied up and abandoned, Dragon has had a whirlwind start in life. He was briefly adopted but returned due to some behavioural challenges, including resource guarding and protectiveness over his people. If pushed out of his comfort zone he can choose to make the wrong decision. Since arrival, he has been working with staff and is now in a foster home, where he’s showing incredible progress!

Personality & Training:

  • A high-energy boy who loves learning and exploring new environments
  • Very smart and quick-witted – he picks up training fast and enjoys mental challenges
  • Enjoys company and bonds deeply with his people but requires structured introductions to new people
  • Great on lead and learning commands like sit, stay, and wait
  • Loves toys! He enjoys a good game but also benefits from enrichment activities like sniffing games and climbing obstacles

Other Pets:

  • Would love to live as an only dog
  • Not suitable for homes with cats or small animals due to prey drive

Ideal Home:

  • Adult-only home (no children, including visitors)
  • Experienced dog owner with knowledge of terriers or a willingness to learn
  • Active lifestyle – he thrives with variety in his walks and adventures
  • Someone who understands decompression time and is patient with settling-in periods

Why Dragon?

Dragon is a fantastic, fun, and loyal companion for the right home. He needs structure, guidance, and enrichment, but in return, he will be an incredible best friend. If you’re looking for a smart, energetic terrier to join you on life’s adventures, Dragon could be your perfect match!

Dragon's Diary

  • Dragon has made such incredible progress in the time he’s been with us - it’s hard to believe it’s been almost four months already! When he first arrived, he was wary of new faces and unsure about visitors. But with consistent positive reinforcement (and plenty of “treat time”), he’s learning that guests aren’t a threat. While his reactions still need careful management, his progress has been incredible.

One of the sweetest transformations is how affectionate he’s become - Dragon has turned into a total snuggle bug! True to his terrier roots, he loves to burrow under blankets and duvets. He’s developed a strong bond with his foster carers, showing just how much love he has to give once he feels safe and understood.

Dragon thrives on mental and physical stimulation and absolutely LOVES toys - especially squeaky ones. He’ll happily entertain himself, though he prefers not to share unless there’s a high value treat involved. His foster family is working on toy swapping, and he’s responding really well.

Considering his unknown past, Dragon has shown incredible resilience and potential. He needs someone patient, understanding, and willing to continue his training, someone who sees the loyal, playful, affectionate dog behind the cautious exterior. Dragon is ready for his next chapter, and we know the right person is out there for him.

  • Dragon’s kennel dad has now taken him home to foster while he waits for his forever home and he continues to amaze us! After just a few weeks out of kennels, Dragon is starting to decompress, and his unique personality is shining through. He's settling well into home life: toileting outside and doing brilliantly with crate training. He LOVES toys (especially ripping up teddies – a healthy outlet for his breed!) but isn’t destructive or interested in furniture.

Dragon is a high-energy boy who thrives on variety and enrichment. He prefers adventure over routine - think different routes on walks, log climbing, sniffing games and training challenges.

Dragon does struggle with strangers in the home and needs to be muzzled or managed in a separate space with enrichment. He simply doesn’t trust visitors and would prefer a home with very few visitors. He shares a beautiful bond with his foster dad (who was also his kennel carer) and is proof that with time and trust, Dragon gives his whole heart.

We know his perfect people are out there - someone patient, understanding, and ready to continue his training and support him through the settling process. He’ll repay it with love, loyalty, and plenty of fun.

  • Meet Dragon (Serious Applications ONLY).

Dragon has been at Many Tears for around 4 months now. However I have only had the pleasure of working with him for the last few weeks. As you can see from his write up he has had a bit of a whirlwind start to life. He arrived with us and was adopted quite fast, but was returned for some behavioural issues. Special dogs like Dragon need much more time to adjust in new environments, and time is needed for you to see the best side of him.

The first day I worked with Dragon, I entered his kennel and I was greeted with a wagging tail. I went down low and said hello with a happy voice and he was climbing over me with excitement. He was an absolute delight, putting a lead on him and walking him was also a delight.

Dragon bonded quite quickly with me over a few days, and after learning I’m no threat he did start to show some of his quirks. He can become quite protective of his people. Strangers need to be introduced carefully and he would be best muzzled whilst the introduction is initiated. Dragon will need an adult only home, with no visiting children.

Dragon is quite motivated by food and we use this to our advantage when training him. Dragon is learning how to be happy whilst muzzled, so that as and when needed he can wear it with no stress.

Dragon just loves to be with his people and loves to do everything any other dog does. Walks and new adventures are his favourite. He can walk for hours so he would need a home that is active enough to achieve this. When Dragon is on lead and walking he isn’t reactive to other passing dogs, but he does like to say hello to all FRIENDLY dogs.

This is my 4th week working with Dragon now and he definitely knows who I am, and I am able to do things with him that other staff members would struggle with, unless he knows them well. So in his new home, if it was a multi person household, they would need to spend equal amounts of time with him and show him that they all are the main care givers such as sharing food responsibilities would definitely help, walking together so he bonds with all that would be In his life. Any new people would need to be introduced carefully.

  • Dragon originally came to us a few weeks ago after he was saved from the pound. We are told that he was found tied up and dumped and if rescue space wasn't found he would be put to sleep and so we of course agreed to take him. At the rescue, Dragon has been the most wonderful boy. Here he has been a little pocket rocket with an infectious personality and he seemed to love humans and was incredibly people focused.

Dragon was adopted but sadly within 24 hours in his new home, he started acting very out of character for himself and was growling at the adopters and nipped the male in the household, seemingly for no reason. Dragon is now back at the rescue where he is being assessed and where the kennel staff are working with him daily - but it's possible his issues may only arise in a home envrionment.

Dragon will be looking for an adult only home, where there are no visiting children and with an adopter who has experience with dogs with behavioural issues and who will be dedicated to working through these with him. He will need an adopter who is kind, but firm and we think he would benefit from learning agility or similar where he can use his clever brain. He already knows basic commands such as "sit" and "paw" and so we think he would really benefit from attending training classes too. He loves to go for walks so would be looking for an active home. We feel like Dragon may have lived in a home previously, so he may be house trained but he may need to learn this. Dragon would live with other dogs or could be an only dog. He is a great boy and we think in the right home environment he will truly thrive.
