Melody’s Song: A New Beginning After a Tough Start

13-05-25 Melody is a beautiful young lady with a heart as gentle as her name suggests. She may start off a little shy, but once she trusts you, she will quietly and calmly seek out your affection. Melody truly thrives in a peaceful, loving environment where she can feel safe and cherished.

She also happens to be a proud member of the bearded ladies club! Yes, Melody has a fabulous little beard – and we think it only adds to her charm. She's part gentle soul, part circus star!

Melody was born in the sister shelter, Ad Lancram, the Aiud Kill Shelter in Romania. Her mother, who was lame due to a gash on her hind leg, gave birth to a litter of six puppies under incredibly tough conditions. Miraculously, all six survived. Funds were raised to rescue the family, and a German rescuer initially took them out of the kill shelter, placing them with a wonderful foster who welcomed them into her home.

Sadly, just a week later, the German rescuer abandoned them all. At that point, we stepped in to take responsibility for the entire family. Since then, the mother and two of Melody’s siblings have found loving homes. Now, we are looking to rehome the remaining three puppies, including sweet Melody, who has grown up very well cared for in foster in Romania.

Despite her difficult start, Melody is described as a happy girl who is great with people once she gets to know you and she gets along with other dogs too. Melody walks nicely on a lead and enjoys gentle strolls, though she may need a little extra help with her house training as she adjusts to home life.

Melody was very briefly adopted, but sadly returned to our care after a few days as she wasn't a right match for the resident dog in the adoptive home and they would squabble, particularly around human food times.

Melody is looking for a calm and quiet home, where there is a kind and steady resident dog who will help her to settle in and be her friend. Melody would need to be fed separately and also kept separately during human food times, at least while she is settling in and getting to understand routines and bonding with her new family and the resident dog. Melody went on several walks in her new home and coped well, but found busier areas quite overwhelming, so she would benefit from being walked in quieter areas as she builds confidence. Melody is good with people but is understandably a little worried meeting new people at first but does warm up quickly. Melody was starting to learn about crate training and would sleep overnight in a crate, she was also doing incredibly well with her house training.

This lovely girl is looking for a calm, nurturing home where she’ll be given the time, understanding, and love she needs to continue blossoming. In return, she’ll bring joy, companionship, and a quietly loyal presence to her forever family.

Melody has been tested for Brucella canis and returned a negative result.
