Narlie

12-06-25 Narlie is a striking boy who is utterly devastated to be back at the rescue after spending most of his life in a home. Narlie originally came to us as part of an unwanted litter of puppies, and since being adopted as a young pup, he has enjoyed the comforts of home life. He has unfortunately found himself back here through no fault of his own due to a relationship breakdown. Naturally, he is very confused but with lots of fuss from our staff and his favourite yellow duck in tow, we are making him as comfortable as we can whilst he adjusts to the busy environment that is the rescue.
Narlie can be the only dog in his new home with adopters who have plenty of time to spend with him. He could also be homed with other kind dogs of a similar demeanor but this will be pending a meet and greet. He cannot share a home with cats.
As Narlie has lived in a home for the majority of his life, he is used to sleeping on the sofas and beds. He is house trained but may need reminding in a new home. Narlie can be easily spooked but there are a few things his previous owners said that really frighten him. These are fireworks, vehicle doors slamming, and vehicle exhausts backfiring. For this reason, he would be more comfortable living in a quiet area.
He will try to escape if something spooks him so his new owners will have to be very mindful of this and make sure his environment is secure. His previous owners had to change the handles in the home to door knobs as he is so clever and figured out how to open handles.
Narlie walks well on a lead. We have been told he will sit on command at crossings, but he will expect a treat before and after a walk, so keep your treat tin well stocked. Narlie is happiest enjoying the sunshine and dry weather; he is not keen on rain and spooked by thunder and lightning, he would much prefer you draw the curtains and cuddle up in front of the fire on these days.
He has previously enjoyed strolls through rivers and dipping his toes into the sea. This usually needs some encouragement to show him just how fun it can be.
Due to Narlie being a frightened dog and potential to escape, he would find children and teenagers too overwhelming so we are looking for an experienced adult-only home for him. He is very affectionate and loves everyone he meets. He is very excited to meet new people, and especially so if they come to visit him at home, so this would need to be managed. He usually settles down after a hello and a quick fuss, but be mindful of his claws. Narlie would really like a home with someone who can spend all their time together, as he does show signs of separation anxiety and can become distressed and destructive if left alone.
Narlie is such a stunning boy who will be such a delight in the right home. He loves to chase balls and tug of war and is especially fond of treat hunts. With kind and patient owners, he can finally relax again and will make a lovely companion.
