Toby

19-06-25 Toby first arrived at Many Tears from a breeder back in October 2024. When we first met him, he was in a sorry state. He was morbidly obese and his fur was so matted and tight to the skin he had to be put under sedation and given an emergency shave off. Despite his condition, we could tell that Toby was once a loved pet, his delightful personality shone through immediately! He showed us so much love and trust.
Toby went into foster with a staff member and was quite quickly adopted by a wonderful woman who gave him so much love, got him to a healthy weight and he found a new lease of life with her! Devastatingly, Toby’s adopter passed away. Her family tried their best to take him on, but unfortunately he didn't like to share his space with the family’s other dog and ultimately had to be returned into our care. Toby has experienced so much loss in his life, and to be back in a kennel was incredibly upsetting for him. Luckily, he was quickly taken into another foster home, where he is showing himself to be a wonderful house guest!
Toby has been clean in the house and is enjoying regular short walks, taking his time to sniff everything as he goes. He is a very quiet little dog that sleeps soundly through the night in his own bed. He loves spending time in the garden, and is doing a very good job at chasing the pigeons off!
Toby LOVES food, sometimes a little too much! He thinks that all food is meant for him, and because he doesn’t see very well in his old age, can snatch food from you. He does have the potential to guard food, so would need adopters who are aware of this and would keep things clean and out of his reach. For this reason, he would be best suited to an adult only home.
Toby is very affectionate and greets all people with a gentle wag and lots of kisses! He loves being near people, but is equally happy enough to be left for short periods.
Toby is an older gentleman, although generally healthy, he does have some age related warts, a fatty lump on his chest (which requires no treatment), arthritis which is managed with supplements, and his sight and hearing are a little impaired.
What Toby needs:
• To be the only dog in the home
• Access to a garden and someone able to give him short, regular walks
• No children and preferably without visiting young children
• Adopters who are committed to watching his waistline and managing his love of food
• Someone who is going to give him SO much love for the rest of his life!
