Toby

23-06-25 Toby originally came to us from a breeder when he was around 3 months old. He was a terrified puppy who was worried about everything and would even squeak in fear when being handled. He was quickly adopted and found a loving home, but he has sadly been returned to our care as he was displaying some behaviours that his adopters felt unable to cope with.
Toby was homed with another dog and while they got along well, he did show some signs of guarding his adopter from the other dog, due to this we feel like he would be best suited to a home as an only dog, where he can have all of the attention for himself.
Toby can also sometimes grumble if people walk past the sofa or his bed and he is on them, so he will be looking for an adult only home with no visiting children, with adopters who have experience with dogs with similar issues and will be able to work on this with him. He did nip his adopter once around 18 months ago, but that was the only time that resulted in more than a grumble.
Toby is still quite a scared boy in some aspects and certain things will make him extremely nervous, such as the hoover or sometimes even minor things like the sounds of a drawer closing, but with confident owners with experience of scared dogs we do believe he will progress further. He would be best suited to a calm and quiet home, where he can settle in at his own pace and follow a routine.
He enjoys going for walks and is very good both on and off lead. He has good recall and gets along well with other dogs outside of the home. He can be reactive to bikes, so his adopters would need to be mindful of this and keep him on lead in any areas where he may encounter bikes and only let him off lead in secure areas.
As he has lived in a home before, we believe he is house trained, but he may need some reminders.
Toby is a sweet boy at heart and in the right home and with the right adopters we think he will thrive. Since his arrival with us he has been on his best behaviour and already adores all of the staff that work with him and they adore him too. He absolutely loves his food and has a true zest for life which makes us smile each day, so we are so hopeful that his perfect home is out there and will find him soon.
Toby was born with some deformed toes, which have since been amputated but don't seem to bother him and cause no issues. He also has a docked tail which we believe he was born with also.
