23-06-25 Rio is a very special boy who originally came to us from Spain after being rescued by kind-hearted people over there. He made the long journey to the UK in the hope of finding his forever home. Rio was briefly adopted, but the resident dog in his new home wasn't keen on him and he was easily bullied by her, so it was sadly in his best interests that he was returned to us. His adopter describes him as a wonderful dog, who was very affectionate with people.

Rio is a confident, friendly dog who adores human company and gets along beautifully with other dogs. He’s playful in a calm and respectful way, and we’ve found him to be incredibly sweet-natured and easy-going, especially given the huge recent changes he’s experienced travelling from Spain to the UK to start his new journey. He walks very nicely on the lead and enjoys gentle strolls – he’d love a few quiet walks a day with his new family.

Rio had never lived in a home before being adopted, but he settled in beautifully and was already house trained. He has a gentle soul and wants nothing more than to be loved – he really is a complete softie who thrives on affection and adores a good ear scratch.

Rio could live with another kind and friendly dog or would be happy as an only dog in a home where someone is around for most of the day. He is a large boy, so we are looking for a home with space, and ideally, a love for larger breeds or rescue dogs. He was homed with cats and was fine with them, so could live with dog savvy felines. However he did not like and would chase the chickens and so could not be homed with any chickens or small animals and must be kept on lead if there are any chickens around.

Although Rio has travelled a long way to be with us, he is a very nervous traveller and so this is something his adopters will need to work on with him.

Rio has been through a lot in his short life, but he has never lost his gentle, trusting nature. We are desperate to find him the loving home he truly deserves.

Rio has travelled from Spain and has received negative test results for Leishmania, Heartworm, Ehrlichia and Anaplasma. He also has a passport.
