  • Human family requirements

I need a calm and quiet, adult only home where I can settle in at my own pace.

  • Other pet requirements

I need a resident dog to help me feel safe but I haven’t met cats yet so I'm not sure

  • House and garden requirements

I’m still shy, so I will need a secure garden while I get used to my new home.

  • Out and about requirements

Walks are too scary for me yet, maybe some slow garden sniffs will be a good start.

  • Training needs

I need to learn lead training and house manners when I am settled into my new home.

  • Medical issues

I’m fully vaccinated and spayed and have had one tooth removed.

Mushroom has come to us from a breeder and has now been with us for around two months, and this gentle little girl has already come a long way from the nervous ex-breeding dog who first arrived. While she’s still shy and unsure, Mushroom is slowly learning to trust and discovering that life can be full of lovely things, like tasty treats, soft toys, and kind people.

She’s especially motivated by food and now follows her carer around like a little shadow, hoping for a snack. She’s also discovered a love for toys, which she likely never had before. It’s been heartwarming to watch her pick up her favourite toy in the yard and proudly carry it around in her mouth, small, joyful moments that show she’s starting to feel safe.

Mushroom has not been rushed with handling, but steady, gentle interaction is helping her build trust. She’s begun to offer sweet little kisses and gentle pecks on the hand, giving us glimpses of the affection she’s capable of once she feels comfortable.

She’ll need a calm, adult-only home with adopters experienced in helping nervous dogs. Another kind and confident resident dog is essential to help guide her, offer comfort, and show her the ropes. She hasn’t lived in a home before, so she’ll need support with house training and will need to learn about lead walking gradually, starting in the garden.

Mushroom may not transform overnight, but there is so much hope for her with the right people. With time, patience, and understanding, we know she will continue to blossom into a very special companion.

Mushroom has had one tooth removed at the time of her spay.

Mushroom's Diary

  • Mushroom has been with us for about 2 months now and during this time she has discovered and learnt lots of new things. She absolutely loves her food so this is the main thing I’ve been using to win her over. I think she now sees me as the ‘food lady’ and follows me around literally everywhere hoping I’ve got a little snack for her … bless her. She also has a huge love for toys, which is something she probably never had before, so it’s been lovely watching her learn what to do with them. Usually she’ll pick her favourite one up when she’s in the yard, and walk around with it in her mouth all proud. It’s very sweet!!

Mushroom hasn’t been on my section the whole time she’s been at the rescue, only for the past 2 weeks. I haven’t pushed her in regards to picking her up and handling her as I wanted her to get to know me a little better before I started any work with her. I do now feel as though I’ve laid the groundwork and she somewhat trusts me, so over the next couple of days I am going to try to give her a little bath to see how she does.

I think Mushroom is a little sweetheart deep down, but she just needs some help and encouragement to let her guard down. She’ll often give me kisses and pecks on my hands so I can tell she does have that sort of affection, but she’s not quite ready to fully let it out. In the right home, I do think she’ll come on really well, but her adopters will need to be patient with her and be understanding of any worries or fears she has. She may not turn corners and become a different dog overnight, but there is definite hope for her in the long run. She just needs someone to give her a chance.

  • Mushroom is a sweet little lady who has come to us from a breeder and is now on the search for a kind, patient forever home where she can finally start her new life. She is quite a worried girl at the moment, but she is trying her very best to be brave. She isn't too sure about being handled and can choose to make the wrong decision if pushed out of her comfort zone, but once you spend some time with her she will accept a gentle chin scratch.

Mushroom will be looking for a calm and quiet, adult only home with adopters who have experience with scared ex-breeding dogs and where she can settle in at her own pace. She will need at least one other kind and confident resident dog who can help guide her and show her how wonderful life can be.

Mushroom has never lived in a home before, so she will need to learn all about home life and new skills like house training. She doesn't yet walk on a lead and will need to practice first in the garden until she builds up confidence and trust.

With time, patience, and another friendly dog by her side, Mushroom will begin to come out of her shell and blossom into a wonderful girl.
