Zion - A Loyal Heart Waiting for His Forever Home

Zion is a truly special boy who is searching for a home where he can finally feel safe, loved, and understood. This gorgeous Chow Chow came to us from a breeder and has never had the chance to experience the warmth of a real home. Because of his past, Zion can be wary of people and will need patient, experienced adopters who can show him that humans are kind.

At first, Zion can be nervous, but with time and trust, he reveals his cheeky, affectionate nature. Those who have spent time with him describe him as playful, loving, and full of character. He absolutely adores a fuss around his face and neck, wags his whole body with excitement, and has recently discovered the joy of soft toys!

Zion has made incredible progress since arriving. He has grown in confidence, started walking on a lead, and is now almost completely kennel clean, meaning house training should come quite quickly in a home environment, although he has never lived in a home before. He still needs reassurance in new situations, so he would benefit from and will need a calm, confident resident dog to guide him.

We can’t understand why Zion is still waiting. He has so much love to give and is more than ready for his forever home. If you are an experienced dog owner who can give him the time, patience, and love he deserves, Zion will reward you with loyalty, companionship, and a lifetime of happiness.

Zion's Diary

  • We are wondering to ourselves as to why Zion is still here, as Chows usually get adopted fairly quickly, we think it might be because he's a short fur Chow. He is a character though, always happy and he gets very excited at feed times!

It's raining today, so instead of going for a walk, we had a short drive in my car. Zion mumbled to himself as I picked him up, but did allow me to easily put him in the car. I strapped him in so he was safe and set off. Looking in the rear view mirror I saw him looking out of the back window, seemingly settled.

Once back at the rescue, he mumbled when I got him out of the car, and then we set off in search of cats. When Zion came face to face with our ginger cat, Zion was not interested, and didn't try to chase when the cat ran off, so he may be able to be homed with cats as long as they were very dog savvy.

He's a lovely lad, playful and I hope he's not here too long.

  • Zion my baby boy! Why is Zion still waiting? He's such a precious man! He is still a little nervous and hesitant, but he has come into himself a lot more now. He is still nervous of staff who haven't looked after him very much, but with me he's a confident, playful little (big) smush!

He's a pro at walking on lead now, as long as he's with a human he trusts. Someone commented today on the difference in his character when he's with other humans in comparison to when he's with me. They said they'd never seen that side of him before - this goes to show that you just need a solid, trusting bond with him and he will thrive!

He is pretty toilet clean in his kennel and so hopefully this will transfer into a home with ease! Zion loves his doggy friends but is now brave enough to be an only dog in the right home!

  • Zion has flourished since he first arrived. He is now a cheeky chops with a zest for life we don't see very often at the rescue! He's ready for his next step for sure.

Zion is now confident with people he knows, LOVES a fuss around his face and neck, and is a super playful boy. He didn't know what toys were but he's decided that soft toys are the better ones!

Today I took him out on a harness, no pressure or expectations, just to get him used to the feeling of it, and show him that the big wide world awaits his eagerness. We started in the yard and he was a pro straight away so I took him out onto the pathways around the centre. He did super well, sniffing and weeing, but very quickly felt unsafe and wanted to go back to his kennel.

Zion doesn't like to feel cornered, but with patience and a playful voice he will approach you in his own time. I think Zion is right on the cusp of potentially being able to go home without a resident dog, and as the days go on he will only grow more confident, so I think in the right home, with the right experienced humans, Zion could be homed as an only dog. This would mean he'd need extra help along with toilet training and new experiences, as he wouldn't have a resident dog to copy and learn from, but I think once he has a good bond with someone he will take confidence in them.

I've looked after him for 4 days in total and he trusts me! He was depending heavily on me when he felt unsure on his harness, and is constantly waiting at the front of his kennel for any opportunity that I can give him more of my time. When I open his kennel door he gets SO excited for any interaction I can offer!

I really hope Zion isn't waiting in kennels for much longer, especially now the temperature has dropped. He deserves the whole world and more!

  • Zion is a gorgeous boy who has come to us from a breeder to find his forever home. He was quite worried on arrival and was a little mistrusting of people at first, but is growing in confidence every day and is now learning to trust. He will be looking for a calm and quiet, adult only home with adopters who are experienced with the breed. He will need love and kindness as he settles in to his new life, but with TLC we think he is going to truly flourish!

Kind and understanding adopters will be essential, while he learns that humans can be kind. Zion would benefit from having another kind and confident resident dog in his new home who can help him to settle in and show him the ropes.

He has never lived in a home before, so he will need patient adopters who will allow him to settle in at his own pace, as he learns new skills such as house training and all about home life. He doesn't yet walk on a lead, but this is something we will start working on with him and we think once he is more confident, he will enjoy going for walks so will be looking for an active home.

Zion is a beautiful boy that is really looking for someone to take a chance on him, so he can learn kindness and compassion and learn to build a new positive outlook on life and people.
