Roo the Brave: A Gentle Soul Finding Her Spark

Roo is a 3-year-old Shih Tzu cross Poodle who came to us from a breeder. She had never lived in a home before arriving at Many Tears, but she’s now in foster care where she’s beginning to discover life beyond the kennel walls.

When Roo first meets people, she greets them with a waggy tail but still finds being approached quite scary. Once gently picked up, she settles and relaxes, showing just how much she wants to trust and connect. Her confidence is slowly growing, and she’s showing real bravery every day. Recently, Roo even attended a busy grooming competition to support the rescue and stunned everyone by walking out on her lead after needing to be carried in that morning.

Roo was born with a slightly shorter left hind leg and a deformed paw pad. It doesn't cause her pain or slow her down she sometimes walks on all fours, but when she runs or moves quickly, she tends to bunny hop on three legs. This quirk doesn’t stop her from enjoying life, and it adds to her endearing charm.

In foster, Roo is beginning to show more of her playful side. She enjoys her toys, loves to have a chew, and has discovered the joy of the sofa especially when she can rearrange her blankets for ultimate comfort. She’s a beginner on the lead but once outside, she enjoys exploring and sniffing around. Her house training is a work in progress, with the occasional accident, but she’s trying her best and improving each day.

Roo needs a quiet, gentle home with at least one kind resident dog to show her the ropes and offer comfort. She finds reassurance in cuddling up to other dogs and learns a lot by watching their behaviour. Her adopters will need to be patient, encouraging, and ready to celebrate all the little victories along the way.

Roo is a very special girl who is slowly beginning to bloom. With kindness, time, and the safety of a calm home, she will make the most loving and loyal companion. If you can give Roo the gentle world she deserves, she will fill your life with soft joy and quiet triumphs.

Roo's Diary

  • Roo is just beginning to learn how to walk on a lead, but once she’s outside, she loves to sniff and explore her surroundings.

She’s mostly clean in the house, though the occasional accident still happens as she continues to learn.

Roo is still a little unsure when people approach her, but she’s gaining confidence every day.

She’s quickly discovered the joys of the sofa and enjoys rearranging her blankets to get them just right. As she settles into home life, her playful side is starting to emerge, she’s becoming more interested in her toys and loves having things to chew.

  • Roo has been in foster for a few weeks and has been making slow progress. She finds people moving around scary but is trying so hard to be brave. Her fun loving side is begging to come out. Roo went to Style to Rescue Grooming competition to help raise funds for the rescue. I didn't know how she would cope with the day let alone being groomed. But this girl did me proud and a girl who had to be carried into the hall in the morning walked out on the lead. Roo is looking for a quieter home with people who can help her confidence grow. House training is ongoing. She is still a beginner on the lead.

  • Roo has come to us from a breeder and although she greets you with a waggy tail when you enter her kennel she backs away when approached but once you have her in your arms she does settle and starts to relax. Roo arrived with her hind left leg slightly shorter than her other and with a deformed paw pad. This doesn't slow her down at all or effect her, sometimes she walks on all four legs, but if she's running or moving quickly she will usually choose to bunny hop on three legs. Roo will need to be shown a lot of love and kindness from her adopters and will need a calm and gentle home where there is at least one other dog who is very kind and who will allow Roo to cuddle up to them for comfort and support if she wants to. Her new canine friend(s) will help raise her confidence with people and she will watch them and start to copy what they do. This will also help her learn new skills like house training and lead walking but with love, gentle words of encouragement and praise Roo will gradually start to realise there is nothing to fear and her adopters will see her start to blossom.
