  • Human family requirements

I would like a calm and quiet home where I can settle in.

  • Other pet requirements

I would like a calm, confident resident dog to show me the ropes and reassure me.

  • House and garden requirements

I would like a secure garden to spend time in.

  • Out and about requirements

I can now walk on a lead and harness and love to explore quiet areas.

  • Training needs

I am in a foster home so am learning all about home life and house training.

  • Medical issues

I am currently being treated for a ear infection in both ears.

Nat is a delicate little lady who came from her breeder in search of a loving home. She is naturally inquisitive and full of curiosity, but she can be easily startled, especially when handled too quickly. While she adores her canine friends and enjoys playing with other dogs, she is still learning to trust humans and will need a kind and patient adopter to help her adjust to home life at her own pace.

Since arriving, Nat has made good progress in overcoming her fear of handling. While she was initially very nervous, her kennel mum has found that with a gentle approach, she stays still and tolerates handling well. She has even been taken into the grooming room for a brush and trim!

Nat has since moved to a foster home, where she is settling in well and adjusting to home life wonderfully. She had never lived in a home before but is learning all about house training and mostly toilets outside or on a puppy pad overnight.

She has also learned to walk on a lead and will follow the other dogs and walks well, but she can be nervous of new situations so it's important that she is in a secure harness and preferably double leaded for her safety.

She loves food, and this has been the key to earning her trust. She is especially a fan of roast chicken!

Nat needs someone who understands that progress will take time, but with the right support and patience, Nat has the potential to blossom into a happy, loving companion. She just needs someone to believe in her and give her the chance she deserves. We would consider homing her with older, dog savvy teenagers who would understand to let her settle in at her own pace.

Nat's Diary

  • Nat is a lovely gentle little dog who is settling in well to her foster home.

Unfortunately she developed a ear infection and although this is now better, it has rather set back the progress I was making convincing her that people could be kind, even though I told her the ear procedures were for her benefit. As this has improved and felt better, her confidence and trust in people is slowly increasing. She does love her food and will happily take treats from my hand, especially if it’s roast chicken.

The most important feature of her new home must be at least one kind resident dog, preferably of similar size. A Bichon would be wonderful as she rarely leaves my Bichon’s side, sleeps cuddled up with her and follows her everywhere. Occasionally one of my mini Schnauzers will join them on the sofa and Nat will happily snuggle into the doggy pile.

She is very good walking on the lead, again likes to follow my girls and meets other dogs very happily. She can still be nervous and jumpy though so will need to be harnessed and held very securely on walks. For this reason, she wouldn't be suited to a home with young children as she may find them too overwhelming, but she could be homed with older, dog savvy teenagers.

Nat is doing well with her house training and mostly follows the other dogs out into the garden for toileting and overnight will use a puppy pad.

I do hope there is a home with a very special friend out there somewhere for her, she is the dearest little dog. She weighs about 7.5kg.

  • Our beautiful girl Nat got moved over to my section shortly after arriving so I could work with her on her fear of being handled. I have to say, I was expecting her to be a lot more frightened than what she was after reading her first write up! She is uncomfortable with being picked up yes, but I haven’t had any problems with her so far and I’ve picked her up for various different reasons quite a few times. I’ve even taken her into the grooming room to give her a little brush and to trim the hair around her eyes. I’ve found as long as she’s in the back of her kennel and I go slow and gentle with her, she mostly just stays still. I would say she does still need a home that has experience with scared dogs though, just because she is going to need a lot of reassurance and guidance for a while when she gets home I think.

Nat is a really sweet girl who is actually trying very hard to be brave. Food is definitely the way to her heart so this is the main thing I’ve been using to try to win her over. I spend a lot of time sitting on the floor in her kennel or in the yard with her and she’s more than happy to approach me to take treats from me, and give me little kisses and sniffs.

It may take a long time for Nat to resemble anything of a “normal dog” and she will need to learn absolutely everything, including how to walk on a lead and being house trained. It will need to be a slow process with her not to overwhelm her, so her adopters will need to be patient with her and understand all of her worries and fears. In the right home, I do think she has the potential to blossom into a very happy little girl … it’s just going to take some time! Please give her a chance!

She is inquisitive and full of curiosity but is easily startled and very worried if she is handled too quickly so because of this we feel it would be better for her to live in a calm and quiet home, with no children and where she can adjust and settle at her own pace.

She has never lived in a home before, so she will need to learn all about house training and how to walk on a lead. We don't think it will take Nat long to trust and bond with someone, she just needs some home comforts to help her blossom. She has a travel document.
