Meet Promise – The Most Complicated Pup We’ve Ever Had!

We’ve homed over 40,000 dogs since Many Tears began, and yet.. Promise might just be the most extraordinary (and challenging) pup we’ve ever met.

He’s a young Cocker Spaniel cross who has fought hard to live. When he arrived, he couldn’t even stand. His brain simply didn’t know how to tell his body what to do. He didn’t respond to love, couldn’t figure out how to untangle himself from a chair leg, didn’t sniff on walks, and stairs? Forget it.

But now?

  • He can walk, run, and always comes when called.
  • He circles around you with the enthusiasm of a toddler on a sugar rush (watch your feet!)
  • He has imprinted himself on our hearts in a way few dogs ever do.

However.. Promise is like a 16-month-old child in a puppy’s body. You need to watch him every second.

  • He has no sense of danger – ponds, cliffs, strange dogs – all potential disasters.
  • He eats like he’s never seen food before. If your fingers get in the way, well… you’ll know about it (zero malice, zero jaw control).
  • He will trip you up. Repeatedly. With joy.

Every day, he learns something new, and every day, he amazes us. He doesn’t need pity - he needs someone extraordinary.

What Promise Needs:

  • Someone with endless patience, time, and love.
  • A forward-thinking, safety-conscious human who won’t take risks with him.
  • A child-free home, not because he can’t meet kids, but because he needs 100% of your focus.
  • A safe, forever home, because I promised him that.

This pup has helped me and others through dark times - and now it’s his turn to find someone just as special as he is.

No dreamers, please. This is a lifelong commitment to a pup who sees the world differently.

If you think you’re the right human for Promise, get in touch. But be warned - he’ll steal your heart (and maybe your balance)

Promise's Diary

  • Once upon a time - though not all that long ago - there arrived at our rescue a dog who looked more like a ghost than anything alive. He was called Promise. Not because he promised anything (he was too poorly to talk), but because we promised him that, if he stayed, we’d do everything we could to give him a life worth wagging a tail about.

He didn’t wag. He couldn’t stand. He flopped, like a furry dishcloth with ears.

Now, Promise is a Cocker Spaniel, but only if someone accidentally washed one on the wrong setting. He’s miniature, teeny-tiny, like a pocket-sized mop with big eyes and no clue where his feet were supposed to go. And back then? He couldn’t even eat without help. We weren’t sure he’d make it. In truth, nobody thought he would - except us.

But dogs are built of quiet miracles.

Each day, Promise tried. First he blinked more. Then he twitched a paw. Then, astonishingly, he followed me with the stubborn determination of someone who’s just remembered what love feels like. And one day, he stood up.

Another day, he ran. (Well, it was more of a chaotic, sideways gallop, like someone dropped a jelly in a wind tunnel - but still, it was beautiful.)

Then came the lead. Oh, the lead. You’ve never seen such confusion and joy in one wiggly body. But he learnt. Because Promise is a learner. A trier. A scrappy little survivor who just wants to be beside you, preferably under your feet, preferably while you’re carrying hot tea.

He doesn’t need another dog, but he’d enjoy one. He loves people. Loves kindness. Loves, well… life. Now that he has one.

And yet - he waits. Still.

Three months of fighting, healing, learning, growing, and still, nobody picks him. People say they want a special dog. One who’ll love them forever. One who’ll never forget what they’ve done for him.

Well - here he is. His name is Promise. And we’re keeping ours.

Now will you help us keep another? Share him. Talk about him. Think of him. Because this little ghost of a dog has already come back from the dead. All he needs now is somewhere to live.

    For real.

  • Playful. Precious and Perfect! Promise ticks all the boxes if you're looking for the perfect furry companion. Promise had a day out of kennels where he could finally be a pup and he was the best boy. He was VERY adventurous. Loved greeting everyone he approached. Dogs big and small. Children and adults. He even had a whole pet shop to choose himself some toys and treats and could not contain his excitement. As you can imagine. The world is still brand new to Promise, so everything and anything is wonderful to him. He needs someone who will be there for him every step of the way as he grows. He is full of beans and is always so happy to meet everyone.
He needs adopters to be his guide and make sure they are always there for him and to keep an eye on him at all times. Promise is full of happiness and has conquered so much in his short life. He has showed us how strong he can be. Determined and focused and is finally ready for his adopters to now show him endless love, how determined they can be and show him the amazing world all-around him, while keeping him safe. We PROMISE you, that Promise will give you his heart and make you the happiest person ever.

  • We stuck by this pup whose brain was damaged. We prayed for him, loved him, and worked with him. Over the weeks he very slowly changed. He could not stand when he came, now he plays, comes to call and delights us all. He’s not totally the same as other dogs, but he’s special in other ways
He is now ready for a forever home.
He could be a trip hazard to elderly.
    He’s good with all dogs.
And he does need your eyes on him as he can get in trouble like investigating a bucket and falling in!
He’s about 6 months old and very small.
He could be yours if you are the right match!!!!
Please help him find a home.

Can live with other dogs
