24-03-2023 Derby is a sweet but frightened little girl who is not used to being handled and is a little overwhelmed at the moment. Derby runs away when approached in kennels but when in your arms is easy to handle. Derby will need a loving and calm adult only home as she would find children to overwhelming. Derby much prefers the company of other dogs and can ususally be found cuddling her kennel friends in bed. She will need a home with kind and confident resident dogs that she can snuggle up to and gain confidence from in her new home. Derby needs kind and understanding adopters to help her learn new skills such as housetraining, walking on a harness then lead and are able to do things at her pace as she has never lived in a house before and this is very new to her. Derby will soon blossom in a loving home that gives nothing but kindness and soon you will be her whole world.
28-04-23 UPDATE
Derby is a sweet girl. Since arriving with us she has come on well, but still has progress to make. She’s very wary of people around her but is slowly approaching us showing that she is wanting to trust. With the right home and companion, Derby will thrive and be such a lovely girl! She will need another dog in the household to show her the ropes, and will need a quiet and calm environment where she can slowly come out of her shell in her own time.
08-05-23 UPDATE
Derby is currently kenneled with other quite scared dogs as we are trying to show them that we are not here to hurt them. It was my first time meeting her today, she was quite chill with me and let me stroke her and give her a fuss. Once she completely settled with me which didn't take long she let me handle her extremely well and was calm, easy to handle in the end. I sat next to her for a good 10 minutes and she was very confident next with me then. Like I said she is currently kenneled with other dogs as she does feel more comfortable with them, so a house with another confident dog will be essential for Derby. Not only to keep her company and to play with but to learn from, she is yet to learn basic skills like walking the lead and house training etc but she will need time and patience for her to learn at her own pace. Please consider Derby for adoption she's had a tough long 7 years without feeling love, please offer her the chance to be part of a family and blossom into the beautiful girl she should of always been.
Please read our information on ADOPTING EX-BREEDING DOGS before you apply.
PLEASE NOTE: We nearly always home dogs who have come from breeders where there is ALREADY A RESIDENT DOG living in the house. They have usually never lived in a house before and are only used to canine company. They usually get their confidence and learn faster with another dog to copy from. This also helps with house training and learning how to walk on a lead. They will make lovely pets but do need a lot of love, time and patience. If the ex breeding dog you are interested in can be an only dog it will say so in its write up. Please read our information on ADOPTING EX-BREEDING DOGS before you apply.
