If you are interested in adopting a dog that does not say it can be homed with a cat and wish us to cat test please let us know and we will be happy to do this.

29-06-24 Mumbles originally came to us in March from a breeder, ready to find his forever home. He was briefly adopted but was returned as he struggled to share his home with the resident dog. We have assessed him here and he can be quite fearful when on his own so he will be looking for a home with another kind and confident resident dog. They could be male or female but they would need to be larger than him. When he's around other dogs he is much more confident and so we really think he would benefit from having a canine companion.
Mumbles is a gorgeous, gorgeous young boy, with lots and lots of energy! He's super special and people obsessed! Mumbles loves nothing more than a long walk and play in the yard- except maybe his dinner!
Mumbles is a super special boy who needs a special home to match and would benefit from adopters who have experience with breeds like setters. He can be reactive to other dogs but has made huge strides with this, and when all his needs are met he isn't all that bad anymore when out and about (although his adopters will need to be prepared to continue to work on this in his new home, especially as he may be unsettled when he's first adopted)
Mumbles is not a fan of formal handling and I will start to positively muzzle train him to ensure any vet visits or anything of that kind can be done safely. Mumbles is looking for a home with devoted loving people who can show him what it means to be an awesome companion. He's got so much potential that is wasted in a kennel environment!

Mumbles needs:

  • to be homed with a dog larger than himself
  • no cats!
  • adult only home
  • no visiting children

14-07-24 UPDATE
Mumbles is the most stunning boy!! I suspect there's a little bit of setter in him, as he's quite long and tall for just cocker! And he has got quite the prey drive too! He's fills my day with laughs with his silly ways, flailing himself about with excitement! In a lot of ways Mumbles is just a pup who's had an unfair start in life!
He knows a good, solid "sit" and "wait" however he does lack a few manners in terms of jumping up, but I don't mind, for the fusses. He gets over the top excited to get his lead on and go for a walk! Though I suspect this may be a bit less dramatic in a home because he'll have much more enrichment and company than he does in a kennel environment. When out on walks here Mumbles just wants to meet and play with every single dog we pass! We are working on keeping his focus so he doesn't get too distracted by the other dog!
I think Mumbles would be an awesome hiking/running/cycling partner. And once his needs are met and he's tired, he does love to rearrange his bedding and have a good lounge around. He is the smushiest sweetheart in the world who deserves the best happy ever after!

05-08-24 UPDATE
Mumbles is still waiting for his perfect home. He tries his best to cope in a kennel environment but ultimately it is a hard place to be for such an active boy!
He can get overwhelmed/overexcited/overstimulated when he passes groups of dogs and doesn't know where to put his energy; for this reason we have muzzle trained Mumbles for his own safety when he's around the centre passing other dogs often! But please don't let this overshadow this beautiful, gorgeous, good boy.
He's such a young soul and just wants to please and do right by you, it's just very overwhelming here for him.
When we're out on a walk he is a dream and he can pass dogs fine when he's in a calm state of mind. When we're playing fetch and chase he is a dream! When he's tired and snuggly, he's a dream!
He just needs compassionate humans who won't put him in situations that he isn't ready for. Who can read him and listen to him when he's feeling unsure.
If you think you could be this special someone for Mumbles, please don't leave him waiting any longer.

26-08-24 UPDATE

Mumbles is still waiting for his perfect people.
Mumbles is a funny, charming, smart boy who knows which humans he can be cheeky with! He's an angel boy for me and doesn't put a foot wrong but I'm told for other staff he is the god of mischief! I think we've created such a lovely bond that he doesn't feel the need to mess around with me.
Mumbles one and only issue is that sometimes he can overreact when he sees other dogs and can direct this towards his handler. For this reason he wears a muzzle whenever he's walking around the centre, because there's a lot of dogs around!
I believe this is SO workable as he is so young and smart, he just needs the right human(s) and a super stable environment. He needs humans who are confident in working with this and who are happy to work through it! I think he's just being a stroppy teenager, and like I said it'll be so easy to help him overcome it.
He needs an extremely confident resident dog, who will not let him muck around! A well rounded dog that shows him how to be an awesome companion. He does so so much better when he's got a confident dog friend to rely on! Mumbles is honestly absolutely superb, he just needs that tiny bit more effort! And that's all it is, that tiny bit. He is literally bursting with potential, but in a kennel environment this is so difficult to bring out! I look at Mumbles and want to cry every time because he is so so gorgeous inside and out, just an undersocialised pupper turned adult who's had a rocky start!
Mumbles had a bath today and hated every second of it. He is very scared of the water, and did everything he could to get away from it. This is something I will start to work on with him because he loves to get mucky so he needs to learn to be okay with getting clean!!

Please read our information on ADOPTING EX-BREEDING DOGS before you apply.

PLEASE NOTE: We nearly always home dogs who have come from breeders where there is ALREADY A RESIDENT DOG living in the house. They have usually never lived in a house before and are only used to canine company. They usually get their confidence and learn faster with another dog to copy from. This also helps with house training and learning how to walk on a lead. They will make lovely pets but do need a lot of love, time and patience. If the ex breeding dog you are interested in can be an only dog it will say so in its write up. Please read our information on ADOPTING EX-BREEDING DOGS before you apply.
