Betsy overcame a big hurdle of hers today! I’d like to think Betsy 99% trusts me now. 99% of the time she will allow me to pick her up without crying and settles in my arms quicker. She will only let you do this when she knows and trusts you. The other 1% , she will still cry when you go towards her telling you she’s not comfortable right now, I stop immediately and give her space and we’ve practised this over and over and she’s improved massively. She really must have some deep rooted trauma.
Today, she let me pick her up and fit a harness on her. Only now I felt like she’s ready to start wearing her harness in the day and she’s bossing it - happy girly all around. Next challenge is a groom, we will take this all at her pace and update how she goes! Betsy really isn’t a difficult dog, once she knows you she’s very trusting. She cuddles me In bed, sleeps upside down right next to me, plays with me and jumps all over me. She just needs time.

Betsy needs that special someone that won’t give up on her, are you that person?
This little girly truly breaks my heart and we’ve formed such a strong bond recently, I can see past those scared eyes, can you? Betsy has been returned to the rescue TWICE, after both homes weren’t experienced enough to be able to handle Betsy. Betsy has come straight back into foster with myself both times and this time it HAS to be right.
Betsy is a very special girl to me. Once she knows you, and trusts you, she is your best friend. I’d like to think Betsy trusts me now.. Yes, she has her timid side and yes she isn’t always up to being picked up, but 99% of the time she allows me to now and will panic at the start but almost leaps into my arms for safety. Betsy is mistrustful of people she doesn’t know, because of this she cannot be homed with young children or any visiting children. Betsy needs a kind resident dog who will allow her to cuddle with them and retreat to them for some confidence if she wants to.
Betsy is learning what the world has to offer, at her pace, are you able to offer her that? Are you able to allow her to open up over time? Betsy is such a character and makes me laugh all the time, her favourite thing In the whole entire world is food! Betsy does such a happy food dance whilst she’s waiting for it to be served. Food is the way to her heart. Today, Betsy went into the rescue to have a groom, and she was so good, she wasn’t a fan of having her face done but we got there in the end. Betsy allows you to brush her once she’s settled so her future adopters need to keep on top of her lovely coat! Betsy doesn’t ask for much, a warm cosy bed, a doggy companion who she can lean on for reassurance, a relatively quiet home with no children.

Betsy is really is your best friend when she trusts you. Each morning and night, me and Betsy have our little routine where she’ll come up to me in bed for a big cuddle and kisses! She rolls all over my lap and nuzzles into me for more love. What more can we want? Betsy needs a kind but playful resident dog who will allow her to settle and snuggle up in dog beds if she chooses too. No children or visiting children, relatively quiet home needed. Betsy has improved so much with her handling, she now anticipates when you are going to pick her up and will do a little ‘jump’ into your arms. She feels more at ease doing it this way so I allow her to. Please don’t let this put you off, she’s learning and growing daily!
