Edith’s Story:

While travelling through Ireland to rescue dogs, Sylvia found Edith at a travellers’ site. At just five months old, her face was raw and bleeding where a head collar had embedded into her skin, her tiny body was caked in mud, and she was straining against her chain to reach a filthy bucket of water.

Sylvia stopped the van and asked if Edith needed a home. The travellers only laughed, but she left her card, hoping for a chance to help. Despite reaching out for assistance, no one wanted to intervene. Then, two weeks later, the phone rang and a man said that Sylvia could take her—on the condition she was collected that very day. Acting fast, Sylvia found a livery stable willing to hold Edith until her passport could be sorted. When the stable owner arrived to collect her, Edith was so weak she could barely stand. It took weeks of care, and Edith was left with a dented nose from her embedded head collar, clicking joints, and sow mouth, but she was still gentle and trusting.

Wanting to make her rescue story magical, Sylvia told her granddaughter, Syd, that the pony was actually a unicorn—her horn only visible on full moon nights. Syd adored the idea and chose the name Edith. Today, Edith is a true diva who is thoroughly spoilt. She’s cheeky, confident, and commands the respect of even the biggest horses. Our kids clubs love giving her long pamper sessions, taking her for fun drives in the cart and teaching her tricks with clicker training.
