Meet Sian

Sian came to us after 17 years with her loving owner. Though it took time to settle, she soon bonded with Quarrel, another older resident. Now happily retired, Sian still has plenty of spirit and has become a firm favourite for her gentle nature.

Sian's Story

Sian came to us after her owner of 17 years was suffering with ill health. In the last winter they had her, Sian’s health declined and her owner was struggling financially to manage her. Her owner did not think it was fair for Sian to go through this again, so contacted us to take her.

It took Sian a while to settle when she arrived, as she had been living in her previous home for many years. However, Sian quickly bonded with our other older resident horse Quarrel, who was struggling himself after the loss of his companion, Guajiro.

When she arrived, Sian was suffering with sweet itch and struggling with her joints. We have been carefully managing her conditions, including supplementing her feeds with various herbs and supplements and doing in-hand pole work to build her muscle. But despite her age, Sian continues to show us that she is a typical Welsh Section D chestnut mare! She still has plenty of go, and loves to have a buck and play in the round pen.

Sian is enjoying a quiet retirement with us at Many Tears. She enjoys spending time with Quarrel in the field and going for in-hand walks, and has become a firm favourite with volunteers due to her calm and gentle nature.
