Foster for Many Tears

Fostering is proof that love, patience, and a little kindness can work miracles

Are you thinking about becoming a fosterer for Many Tears?

Fostering a dog is such a rewarding experience - for many of our dogs it’s usually their first taste of home life and of the love and comfort that comes with it. You’re not just giving them a place to stay; you’re teaching them how to trust, play, and feel safe. Watching a nervous ex-breeding dog grow in confidence and get ready to find their very own forever home is an incredible feeling. Every cuddle, every small milestone, and every wag of the tail makes it all worthwhile!

If fostering sounds like something you would like to do. Please carefully review the following criteria before applying:

  • You must be an experienced dog owner who is at home most of the day. If you work from home please provide details of the hours you work. Many of our dogs are fearful of people and have never experienced living in a home before. They need a fosterer who can dedicate plenty of time to helping them build confidence around people, adjust to home life, and learn essential skills like house training and walking on a lead or harness.
  • Your garden must be very secure, with sturdy fencing and a separate area from the driveway to prevent any access to the road. This ensures there’s no risk of escape through an open gate due to a delivery or visitor. Many of our dogs are flight risks, especially when adjusting to a new environment, so security is essential.
  • Any children in the home need to be at least 5 years old and they must be very experienced around dogs. They should also understand how to behave around scared dogs that need time and patience to build confidence with people.
  • Any dogs in the home must be spayed or neutered.
  • You'll need to be able to send regular written updates, including photos and/or videos, of your foster dog to the rescue at least once a month. This ensures their profile stays accurate and up to date, giving them the best chance of finding their perfect forever home.

Most of our dogs have never lived in a home before and can be extremely nervous and completely overwhelmed at first. You’ll need to be prepared for this and have the time, patience, and knowledge to help them adjust. They will require socialisation, house training, and in most cases, will need to learn to walk on a lead and harness. We will provide you with full support, connect you with a "foster buddy" and the rest of our experienced foster community is always on hand to offer guidance and advice.

We are looking for fosterers who are prepared to foster dogs on an ongoing basis and so would not be able to consider applications from those looking to foster with the view of adoption. We do understand how easy it is to fall in love with your foster dog, and if that happens, you’re welcome to apply to adopt your foster dog.

    Transportation:

Many Tears has foster runs along the M4, reaching as far as Reading, where you can collect your dog from designated collection points. We also have fosterers across the country who work together to transport dogs to their foster homes. However, you must be willing and able to take your turn driving and collecting dogs for other fosterers when needed.

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Many Tears fosterer. Your commitment can make a significant impact in the lives of these dogs and help them on their journey to finding their forever homes.
