24-03-2024 Friday is a stunning boy who uses his looks to win you over. He is super super affectionate and always wants a cuddle from people he loves! He loves his toys, walks and food, and has a clear understanding of what is expected from him when asked, with his knowledge of a huge range of queue words like sit, heel, lay down, and wait.
Friday was adopted as a puppy from us and has been returned due to having some issues in the home. His issues were managed the best they could be, but the people didn't have the right set up for him as Friday can guard, and escalates in his guarding quite quickly. He also can wake up in a startle in the night/dark and react. He needs his own area, like a large crate or room baby gated off, where it is his space and his space only. This should not be used as a 'time out', but somewhere he can be safely put out of the way when needed, eg when you're cooking your dinner, new people over, etc. and where he will sleep at night.
Baby gates will be your best friend with a dog like Friday and I think initially "Fridays area" will be something to depend on a huge amount, only bringing him to the rest of the house in a controlled way, to see where his issues lay and where you can do work constructively. I have also started muzzle training him so that when he is brought into the rest of the house, he can do so safely and you can be much more confident with it too.
Friday doesn't need someone who just want to adopt a dog to have a dog, he needs someone who wants to help him, guide him in the correct ways, and show him *how* to be a pet dog in the home, with respect. It will be a long road, but he is the most scrumptious boy and I can promise it'd be worth it. He needs someone who won't give up on him. To sum up, Friday needs:
- TO BE ONLY DOG
- An adult only home
- An experienced home (preferably experience with guarding but if you show you are truly ready to work with whatever he throws at you, this could be considered)
- No cats or small furries in the home
- His own safe area
- People who won't expect miracles and know he needs a lot of guidance
02-05-24 UPDATE
PLEASE NOTE: We nearly always home dogs who have come from breeders where there is ALREADY A RESIDENT DOG living in the house. They have usually never lived in a house before and are only used to canine company. They usually get their confidence and learn faster with another dog to copy from. This also helps with house training and learning how to walk on a lead. They will make lovely pets but do need a lot of love, time and patience. If the ex breeding dog you are interested in can be an only dog it will say so in its write up. Please read our information on ADOPTING EX-BREEDING DOGS before you apply.
